Richard Jerome George was born on the 15th of February, 1934 to Margaret Moore and Whitter George in Lake Waccamaw, North Carolina. Richard moved to New York at age seven, where he attended PS 13 and Gorton High School in Yonkers. Richard went on to serve in the Air Force from June 1952 to June 1956 where he honed his skills as a master mechanic. In civilian life, he established Dick's Servicenter in 1970, a full-service gas and repair shop on South Broadway, Yonkers. He served as Treasurer on the Service Station Dealers Board of directors for many years.
In addition to the service station business, Richard also formed a production company to produce and promote his wife’s operatic concerts in Lincoln Center, Alice Tully Hall and various New York area venues.
Richard J. George passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 25, 2018, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. He was 83 years young, and blessed with his wife of 57 years, Carol Joy and three daughters Lovette Carol (d), Richelle Joy and Carina Marie.
Richard was a devoted husband, loving father, loyal friend, dedicated business owner, and a pillar of the community. He was well-loved, and will be missed.
The family will be present on Saturday, February 3rd, 2018 from 4-7 PM at F. Ruggiero & Sons, Inc. - 732 Yonkers Avenue - Yonkers, NY 10704. A small Service with Military Honors will begin at 6 PM.
Our facility at 732 Yonkers Avenue is independently owned & operated by Richard & Michael Ruggiero. This location is staffed by Michael, Eileen, Michelle and Andrew Ruggiero. At this time, this is the only facility owned and operated by the Ruggiero family
