Obituary of Gertrude B. Stovall
Gertrude B. Stovall, a resident of Yonkers for over 75 years died Saturday, December 1, 2001 at St. John's Riverside Hospital after a long illness. Most recently, she had been a resident at the Michael Mallott Nursing Pavillion in Yonkers. Gertrude was born in Henrico, Virginia on April 26, 1916 to the late Bailor and the late Minnie (Bowles) Jackson. Gertrude attended Yonkers schools and married John H. Stovall on April 7, 1936. Before her retirement in 1981, she was a supervisor of housekeeping at Holiday Inn on Tuckahoe Road in Yonkers. During her employment at the Inn, she received several awards of recognition for her housekeeping competence. Sixteen years ago, Gertrude dedicated her life to conforming to bible standards and helping others to learn about God's coming kingdom. She was actively associated with the Dobbs Ferry Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. Gertrude is survived by her loving family: her husband and five children: John H Stovall, Jr., Willis F. Stovall, Charles L. Stovall, Bettie M. Tilson and Minnie L. Green all residents of Yonkers, NY; her seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Her brother, Wyatt T. Jackson predeceased her in 1980. She will be dearly missed and always remembered. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. at F. RUGGIERO & SONS, Inc., 732 Yonkers Avenue, Yonkers, NY with a funeral service at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Following a family gathering on Thursday at 12 noon at the funeral home, Gertrude will be laid to rest at Mount Hope Cemetery, Hastings On Hudson, NY.
